Ultrasonic Flow Meter

Clamp-On Accuracy for Clean and Contaminated Liquids

Ultrasonic flow meters are ideal for non-intrusive measurements of liquid flow in a wide range of pipe sizes. Using transit-time or Doppler principles, they offer high accuracy without cutting into the pipeline — making them perfect for drinking water, industrial fluids, and even slurries.

These meters are available in clamp-on, inline, and portable models. They are ideal for industries such as HVAC, water treatment, power generation, and chemical processing.

Installation Process

Follow these steps to install your ultrasonic flow meter for optimal performance and accuracy.

Step 1: Choose the Right Location

Select a straight pipe section free of valves or elbows for at least 10D upstream and 5D downstream of the sensor.

Step 2: Prepare Pipe Surface

Clean and remove any rust or dirt on the pipe surface to ensure proper contact with the ultrasonic transducers.

Step 3: Mount Transducers

Attach clamp-on or insertion transducers as per the manual. Use coupling gel and align accurately for signal clarity.

Step 4: Electrical Connections

Connect the power supply and output signals (4–20mA or pulse). Ensure proper grounding and cable shielding.

Step 5: Configuration

Set parameters such as pipe material, diameter, fluid type, and flow units using the built-in keypad or software interface.

Step 6: Calibration & Testing

Verify readings with reference flow. Fine-tune as needed and ensure stable signal and zero offset before commissioning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ultrasonic flow meters work best with clean or slightly dirty liquids. For highly aerated or slurry-type fluids, performance may degrade.
No. Clamp-on ultrasonic meters are non-invasive and install externally without modifying the pipe.
Yes. Their easy installation and portability make them ideal for temporary or spot flow measurements.
Minimal maintenance is needed. Just ensure the transducers remain clean and aligned properly over time.
Standard ultrasonic meters are for liquids only. Special models are available for gas applications.
